Studio Designer finds great inspiration in the vast array of design blogs and design-business blogs found on the Internet, many of which have considerable influence on not only interior designers but the design world at large.
In this post, we share five of our favorite blogs that may just spark some creative ideas of your own or provide some essential advice for your design business.
BUSINESS OF HOME by Editor at Large
As the daily media of record for the home industry and interior design professionals, the Business of Home recently changed its name from Editor at Large as a way to declare more precisely the overall mission of their publication. This blog is a great way to keep up-to-date on all major design industry events, the latest and greatest from your favorite top designers, regional design news, design job postings, and even great editorial design advice articles. This blog is robust, chock full of content, and even provides a quarterly print publication.
This is a fun and engaging blog to visit on a daily basis as blog author Tina Roth Eisenberg shares her passion for creativity, design, and artistic entrepreneurship. As a former design director, Tina runs a few companies that support the overall design community like Creative Mornings, a global monthly lecture series; created a phone app called TeuxDeux; founded Tattly, an artisan temporary tattoo business, and runs a co-working space for design professionals called Friends. Not only does Tina post great creative finds on a near-daily basis but she has a great “Friday Link Pack” post every week with an incredible concentration of intriguing links to design and even some pop-culture content.
Simply put, Colossal is one of the most visually compelling blogs on the Internet that manages to showcase truly unique and impressive art and design talent across the spectrum. Writer and curator Christopher Jobson started this blog eight years and it has since become one of the largest visual art, design, and culture blogs on the Internet. The site champions the work of both established and emerging artists and even delves into the intersection of art and science by exploring the beauty of nature.
CAPELLA KINCHELOE: BUSINESS TRAINING FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS
Capella Kincheloe is an interior design and design business advice blogger who created her blog with an open and generous spirit. She emphasizes on her blog that she is an interior designer and devoted design professional who believes in helping others. In her own words, “When designers succeed, the industry succeeds, which helps us all.” Her compelling and informative posts include tips on starting a design business or blog, interior designer profiles, advice for beginning and experienced design professionals, and even tips on self-care.
Amber Lewis and her blog Amber Interiors represent one of the best “blog to riches” stories on the Internet as she was able to parlay a personal design blog into her own design and build firm plus commercial retail operation. Her Amber Interiors blog continues to be a deeply inspirational online environment where she shares bohemian and elegant design work from around the world, before and after project transformations, designer quick tips, plus ideas and projects that elevate the interior design community.
